Artist of the month · November 2026
Alyssa McClenaghan
Alyssa McClenaghan is a New York artist who builds sculpture from the materials of home maintenance: foam insulation, joint compound, plywood and exterior house paint, shaped into sinks, windows, vessels and reaching limbs. Her work thinks through domestic labor and the ways femininity gets built into a home. She earned her MFA in painting at Brooklyn College, and her resume already includes a show with HESSE FLATOW in New York and a residency at MASS MoCA.

Anticipation is the Hardest Drug
Nov 5, 2026 to Jan 3, 2027
A window installation at 1 Main Street, Brooklyn, viewable day and night from the sidewalk, with an opening reception November 5, 6 to 8 pm. Dates and details: deannaevansprojects.com
Why McClenaghan
Three reasons. One: the material twist, insulation foam and joint compound, the stuff hidden inside walls, becomes the visible skin of the work. Two: the subject, sculptures that take the measure of domestic labor and the bodies expected to do it. Three: the setting, a storefront window in Dumbo where the work meets the street around the clock, no ticket and no threshold.
The works are titled like feelings kept at arm's length: My capacity feels infinite to you, And I tell myself it is; I Try So Hard to Keep Things Alive; Who Will Carry You.. With Everything You Hold. The titles and the works above are the artist's own, from her posts.
